Crown Lane
Southgate, London
Our client asked for something different to align with his eccentric nature and desire to maximise daylight…. our brief started off with multiple challenges as we were tasked with not glazing the roof in a manner that would make this dwelling a conservatory, but to glaze it in a manner that had all the benefits of a conservatory.
Extensions of this type often present challenges to the inner (extended) room, which will experience dark spots once extended.
Following careful thought and concept development, we proposed something we had not done before…..lets hang the ceiling from the glass…
In essence, the ceiling is centered on a glass roof, promoting an even distribution of light around the ceilings perimeter whilst shielding the mid-day glare. The form of the roof promotes interest from within with the interior, shadows cast and light rays form an intriguing part of the interior, generating a soft well illuminated living environment.
