Bush Hill Park

Tennis and Bowls Club

Bush Hill Park, Enfield

Set on one of two remaining open spaces within the Bush Hill Park Conservation Area, this development involves the installation of a modern sports centre facilitating indoor bowls and tennis.

As the club was established over 100 years ago, this development required an approach that respected the history of the club. In addition to this, the complex nature of the site and conservation area status set development parameters to a degree that demanded a creative approach architecturally and technically.

The club house itself maintains character from the Victorian era, this challenged the forms to be considered on this development which was not compatible with the resultant forms required to address the space standard for the proposed function under the client brief.

Rather than working to the preference of the conservation design officer and urban design officer (who both dictated non-negotiable requirements on the required character and size of the new development) at pre-app, the team at MSK Design responded with a high-quality modern scheme that is discreet and elebant in its simplicity, whilst fusing character from two different eras in a respectful manner.

This scheme is currently under consideration at the planning department, we have been advised that the conservation officer an urban design officer have given their support to this modern development and look forward to building this in 2025.
